[...] A bit back, I thought Giuliani may have seen the light on guns. Or rather, he may have realized that to win in the red states with some adultery under his belt, he’d have to get some pro-gun street cred. Looks like that wasn’t the case. He apparently thinks that there is a right to arms but some sort of “densely populated area” exception that squares his support for New York City’s excessively restrictive gun laws. Well, restrictive if you’re not a politician or famous actor. [...]

Regardless of his gun position(s), I'd trust him no further than his ex-wives should have.

<em>Giuliani's top adviser, Anthony Carbonetti, insisted the ex-mayor's "position on this has not changed.

"People understand that Rudy had a commitment to protect New York against crime. That has no impact on hunting or gaming."</em>

Yeah.

<i>His job is getting elected, and he will do whatever it takes to make that happen.</i>

Unfortunately, that is the sad state of affairs for America's "public servants".

I don't care whether he has had a change of heart or not. Like Romney and Kerry, anyone who would compromise their principles to get elected isn't worthy of the job.

Yes, I realize that's ridiculously idealistic in this day and age, but that's how I was raised and that's how I feel. I would be more apt to vote for him (still wouldn't happen, but slightly more) if I could respect his stand on principle even if I disagreed with his position. I have no respect for him at this point. He has no principles and will tell us what he thinks we want to hear. That means that he simply cannot be trusted.

Duncan Hunter, 2008!

There is nothing that Rudy can say that will make me trust him enough to give him my vote, short of appearing on national primetime and, using my name, promising me personally that he will never enact gun control legislation.

So a "spokesperson" stands up and says he "satisfied" Rudy has had a change of heart?

That doesn't "satisfy" me.

Rudy is going to have to stand up and say it himself out of his own mouth: "I was wrong about the Bill of Rights and Gun Control, I apologize and will never support ANY gun control laws and will work to repeal those on the books if elected President."

Hard to make the call.

What if, all this time, he was anti-gun because he was in NYC and that's what he had to say to get elected?

I'm not even thinking about the elections till next year. Well, not much, anyway.

I might believe Rudy if he goes goose hunting at least once. Once an anti, always an anti. The spots never rub off. Jack
