Hey, if a deer toasts my car by playing Bambi Jihadi in front of it, I want to be able to take the remains home & eat ‘em. I’ve done so before, including back when it was illegal.

My first take on it was it was a sensible law.

Seems to me that after some deer wipes out the front of some guy’s pickup, he oughtta be able to field dress it on the spot, throw it in the back of the truck, take it home and cook and eat the darn thing. ‘Course I don’t know a whole lot about fresh on-the-hoof meat, spoilage from getting mangled, etc. Evidently time is of the essence. I eat my meat already butchered. Expensive cut of meat, but better than nothing. Most state’s don’t allow that…I guess because they think you will aim for one just for the meat.

Or is there a serious charge here that folks in my newly adopted home state would actually eat two-day old, sun-dried, truck-flattened possum? We used to sail sun-dried traffic-flattened cats in El Lay when I was a kid, but eat them was not cool — nobody got that hungry.

I remember when TN debated legalizing the eating of roadkill. My first thought was, “Whatever possessed Tennessee to think about legalizing it?”

My second thought was, “For that matter, what possessed them to make it illegal in the first place?”
