When my son was worried about monsters, I told him that monsters were too scared of Daddy to come into our house.

Seemed to work fine.

There's a series of ppre-school and kindergarden/1st grade books "Where the Wild things Are" or something like that. MAybe her teacher is reading them to her kids. They have monsters on the covers and throughout the storyline. The aren't supposed to be scarey, but maybe they are to your child.

Sounds like night terrors. "Night terrors are a common sleep problem among children. By some estimates, about 15% of younger children have occasional night terrors. Although most common in children between the ages of 2 and 6 years, they can occur at almost any age."
We resolved a case of night terrors by playing lullabies on a CD player at low volume. Twinkle- twinkle-little-star on repeat a couple of nights in a row did the trick.
