If I had to get by with just one, I'd give the late Mr. Cooper's scout rifle idea a try.

Hmmm.

1) Ruger Mark II * (But the Buckmark is attractive)
2) I have a Stevens, but I'd rather have a 10-22
3) Remington M700 *
4) Undecided; lever-action .44 Magnum maybe
5) Remington 870 *
6) M1 Garand or M1A
7) K31? Well, I have this large ring Mauser action -- someday, it'll be a rifle
8) No opinion
9) 1911A1 *

re #7: I have a norinco SKS-M, the sporting variant. It's a lovely rifle :) Basically they reengineered the SKS reciever to take AK magazines, and assembled it without a bayonet lug, etc. so as to satisfy the import points system. They're still out there, and the quality was actually surprising given my previous experiences with Norinco (a m.213, with punched lettering that looked like a 3'rd grader did it. Might have, actually.)

Yup. I use the Uncle Mike's pocket holster. Had to cut out a stitch to get it to fit but it works great.
