I grew up and attended schools where all the teachers were adults. Many were WWII or Korean War or both veterans or their wives and some scurvy sonofabitch trying to shoot up their schools would have had his ass waxed and his loved ones saying "My, my, don't he look natcheral?"

That our society and our schools are filled with ineffectual cowards is a condition, not an excuse, and damn sure not a reason to not try to do better.

What percentage of teachers today are scared sh*&%less at the sight of gun?

What percentage of teachers are not in the Brady Bunch?

I am all for having armed protection for schools, but if you really think teachers are going to do this, you don't know very many teachers.

My choice wasn't one of the options. I think it is their duty to be armed. Without permit. "....shall not be infringed.", remember Just the same way it is a father's duty to be armed and/or prepared however necessary to defend his home and those in it who rely on him.

I think people with licenses should be allowed to carry on school grounds. I don't think we should proactively arm teachers; that would cause more problems that it solves. If a teacher or administrator wants to be armed, and has the licenses, that's fine.

Politically I think this issue is a loser for us. Because our opponents are always going to frame it this way "The gun lobby favors handing out guns to teachers as a way to solve the problem. Is there any problem that more guns aren't the answer to for these people?" We know this is a mischaracterization of what most of us are trying to say, but someone on the fence might be motivated to go against us if they hear something like that, then actually hear is saying things that are easily misunderstood. It's important that we don't give any wings to the "arming teachers" meme. Most people think that's nuts.

I think Gun Law News framed the issue best:

Why does a person's right to self defense end when they enter a school, government building or national park?

I think this is the best way to deal with the restriction issue. Not many people are eagar to put guns in schools, and we should also face up to the fact that very very few teachers, administrators or school employees will voluntarily choose to be armed.

Thanks, Rustmeister.

And I would add that for those polticians who want to keep schools, principals and teachers in gun-free, criminal-safe zones, let them also be without armed protection. IF gun control and being disrmed victims is good for us and our kids it oughta be good for government officials and agents!

I find that I don't agree with any of the choices they provide. If they had a "No, because it would have no measurable effect" option, I could probably check that box.

Yes! Teachers and principals who have received carry permits from their respective states should absolutely be able to carry their weapons to defend themselves and kids at schools because they are always there!!. It has worked in Israel for many years to stop the terrorists who WERE preying on Israeli school children.

It's an attitude of ignorance and bigotry which wants to keep schools "gun free" and leave their kids at the mercy of whichever criminal or deranged person that wants to walk in to prey on unarmed victims. I must admit that this dangerous and idiotic anti-gun propaganda has been effective and pervasive--and its working to maintain "criminal-safe" zones for these murderers.

I'm torn on it. I don't want it mandated but wouldn't mind it being allowed. Though I'd prefer the schools to have an armed guard.

The only analogy I can offer is that of a prison. Guards in prisons usually aren't armed so that prisoners won't be able to disarm them.

I wouldnt want my kid in a classroom with a teacher packing heat. Its all fine and dandy to say you want a teacher armed until you visualize your kid in the classroom with them.
