Shift

My personal opinion is that the Republicans have basically abandoned every thing they stood for now that they’re in power, except lowering taxes. So AC’s prediction wouldn’t surprise me:

I can say quite confidentially [err, is it a secret – Ed.] now that the Democrats will take both the US House and the US Senate. I believe it will happen. If Harold Ford doesn’t win, then it will be Webb in Virginia or some other upset.

I doubt they will this time around. Maybe in 2008. There’s simply not enough time for the Ds to have distanced themselves from some of their recent less-than-stellar moments.

They’ll win a few seats, but I doubt they’ll take control of either House (in fact, I predict they won’t). The campaign is just beginning; alot can happen between now and November. The Republicans have 2-3 times more money, and they haven’t spent much of it yet.

Also, pollsters in the past two elections consistently underestimated Republican support by some 2-3%. They’re probably doing the same thing now.

I agree. The Republicans will come up with some fearmongering ploy to convince just enough people that they need to vote Republican or else the gay illegal alien terrorist abortionists will take over and *gasp* raise taxes.

That should read “gay illegal alien terrorist gun-controlling abortionists”. Don’t forget gun control as another issue the Repubs can (and will) beat Democrats with.

On a more serious note, you might call it a “fearmongering ploy”. I’d call it a vital debate. America needs to decide if we’re going to be a superpower and stand and fight, or if we’re going to mimic Europe and cut and run. In that regard, it would be very nice if the Democrats would actually take a position and say “Yes, we’ll run from Iraq because it’s the right thing to do” instead of chanting “Bush Lied!” and whining about how their patriotism is being questioned.

Hey, I’d love for the Democrats to be honest and admit that under Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid they’ll raise taxes, confiscate guns, coddle terrorists, and welcome illegal aliens with open arms. But that’s the problem with Democrats: they’ll never be that honest because they know they’ll never get elected that way.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
