My daughter started climbing out of her crib when she was a little over a year old. Happily, she'd sleep through the night and climb out in the morning.

We just put a toddler proofer thing on Jr's doorknob. Works like a charm, although he did rip the thing off the knob once.

"<i>I turned her door knob around so that it locks from the outside, which keeps her locked in her room.</i>"

Hate to burst yer bubble, Unc, but we've been doing that for three years now. It started the day our daughter moved into her own room. Our son started coming in for nightly visits - he had been moved to his room (we dedicated one room as a nursery, started our son there, then moved him into his "big boy" room complete with "big boy" [toddler] bed) and was no longer constrained by the crib, so he got out of his bed, out of his room, and came into our bed.

Took a lock off the bathroom door, swapped it around and we're good to go. Just did it with our daughter now - she had been really good about staying in her room, but she's in the TERRIBLE THREES now and has started getting out loooong after we've put her to bed.

IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP: Leave one of the pin-key thingies somewhere in the room. Otherwise Junior WILL lock the door with you in her room at least once, and you'll have to climb out the window and shinny down the farmer's porch... ;)

P.S. She started pre-school the week before. Prior to that she hadn't been much of a climber. We think she learned how to climb stuff by watching other kids at pre-school.

Katie started climbing out of her crib last week. I'm going to the store tonight to get the toddler rail.
