I have no reason to suspect that I will ever be raided. Unless, of course, there is one of those all too frequent address f***-ups. But should such occur, they have to kill me. If they don’t do it then, they will be hunted. If they do it then, they will be home free. Could that be why they seem to have so many fatal encounters? They fear the consequences of their actions.

I recall from the original story that that was not the case. Witnesses report that the police never announced themselves and that the gun recovered was a BB gun. Something doesn’t add up.

Lt. Robert Voss, spokesman for the Sunrise Police Department, gave this account of the raid:

The SWAT team knocked on Diotaiuto’s door and “announc[ed] their presence” before smashing in his door about 6:15 a.m. They found Diotaiuto in his living room and ordered him to “freeze” and get on the ground.

Instead, Voss said, Diotaiuto fled to his bedroom and “armed himself” with a loaded handgun. Voss said it is unclear whether Diotaiuto pointed the gun at officers.

Gee, I wonder why the cops shot him. Was it the weed, the gun permit, or the fact that the guy grabbed a gun when confronted by the cops? Potato, potahto?

…the grand jury investigating the raid has been canceled twice now…

What? they can do that? Twice? Doesn’t the ability dismiss a grand jury ruin a major check-and-balance in our legal system?

How can police be held accountable if the grand jury just keeps getting the boot when they are close to an indictment?
