Videotaping police should never be illegal
A city man is charged with violating state wiretap laws by recording a detective on his home security camera, while the detective was investigating the man’s sons.
Michael Gannon, 49, of 26 Morgan St., was arrested Tuesday night, after he brought a video to the police station to try to file a complaint against Detective Andrew Karlis, according to Gannon’s wife, Janet Gannon, and police reports filed in Nashua District Court.

“They were waiting for a warrant to seize the cameras and the tapes in my house . . . because they said having these cameras was against the law. They’re security cameras,” she said, adding, “They said they could do that. They could seize my apartment.”
The police are saying security cameras are illegal?

The article also states that it was posted that the property was watched by security cameras. IMO, that means that the cops, by coming onto the property, gave their implicit permission to being taped.

IF you think the police are really harrassing you, a trip with your video tape to the Commonwealth Attorney’s office, or even your own attorney would be the logical move.

I live in the next town east, and was frankly baffled by this. By the Nashua Police’s contention, every bank or other company that has closed curcuit systems are in violation of the law.
I’m seriously hoping they have this jammed up their backsides.
The law was supposed to be about privacy protections, but for some reason the police have turned this inside out. I’ve tried wading through the legalese, and I’m still baffled as to how and closed curcuit system for security doesn’t violate this law. It’s not in any of the exceptions.
