"I oppose it because it is disproportionately applied to minorities (specifically the poor). "

That is a human rights claim.

I'm generally not in support of the death penalty because I don't think I can always trust our bumble-everything-else-up government to apply it properly.

Those “End the Death Penalty” supporters can expect my unwavering support, however, the moment the term “Life” is struck from our justice system.

What is “life”? is it 40 years? Thirty? How about 30 years with a 10 of them off for good behavior, and an additional 25% off for overcrowding? WTF?

Yea, it gives another twist to the phrase “truth in sentencing laws”, but I'll support ending death penalty when people are getting 99 years instead of “Life”.

I oppose it because it is disproportionately applied to minorities (specifically the poor). So, my opposition is not due some human rights claim.

It sounds like one to me. No one generally opposes punishments because they are (allegedly) disproportionally applied. If we operated on that principle, we'd have to get rid of prisons, too. And fines, and community services, and everything else that a given defendant is less likely to face if he hires a good, expensive lawyer rather than a mediocre, cheap one.

Who is it that opposes the death penalty but supports prison rape as just punishment?

What happened to the old idea that punishments werent supposed to be pleasant? I dont understand the calls to not execute people because one of the stages of lethal injection causes a slight tingling. Oh no, too painful! It's supposed to hurt, youre being executed! I think we should just shoot them in the back of the head.
