[...] Between these two boobs and Bloomberg’s recent comments about exporting NY’s gun laws, I say bring it. I welcome the debate and my reason is simple: time and time, there has been no evidence that gun control laws affect gun crime. This conclusion was reached by the CDC and the National Institute of Justice. Access trace data will not prevent any crimes and will not really affect tracing crime guns. They can already do that since they know the gun they’re referring to came from Florida. I don’t see how they possibly think that knowing the gun was stolen sooner would have stopped anything. It’s another band aid solution for appearance sake that will accomplish little, if anything. [...]

Bloomberg is a part of an Evil Rovian Conspiracy to get the Democrats to push extreme gun control measures this year, thus ensuring that the Republicans will, by default, keep control of Congress.

Only someone as deluded as Chuckie Schumer would think this is a good idea for his party. Combine the issue of Gun Control with the positions of Retreat from Iraq and Impeachment of President Bush and you have a perfect Democrat Party Platform...for Republicans, that is.

Bloomberg, like his RINO predecessors Rudy and John Lindsey, are not Republicans in any aspect of RNC policy.

They may or may not be good mayors of NYC, but they certainly aren't Republicans.

Let Bloomberg try to sell his nonsense to Phil Bredesen, our Democrat governor in Tn, this election year and see how far he gets.

Bredesen is a fine marksman and sportsman who would have no part of gun control.

For an assessment of those who make deals with the Brady crowd, Bloomberg may want to consult Andrew Cuomo and S & W.

true, I meant in the broad political sense. Remember that (possible GOP candidate) Giuliani was a popular mayor here.

yup - a NY license is not valid in NYC (although the reverse is valid).

Maybe I'll be a 5th column within the registered NYC handgun community. ha.

d,

My uncle has a permit but he lives way out on Long Island. I have another one (who's son-in-law - aka my cousin's husband - is a NYPD detective) who carries but won't get one. After surving through the ban and confiscation of registered guns by NYC in the 60s/70s, he lives by the motto of NEVER REGISTER YOUR GUNS or your gun ownership for that matter. He keeps telling me he wants to visit Virginia and walk around with them strapped on in open plain view just because he can (he's been saying it for awhile, but never really gets off Long Island).

Anyway, there is a clear demarcation between those living within the "5 boroughs" (and perhaps those in Westchester and Nassau County) and those in the rest of the state.

d,

I suspect that Alabama Dems (like our TN dems) are still quite pro-gun. Our governor signed shall-issue NFA approval into law.

IIRC, not only is it six months but about $600 in fees that don't include the actual gun.

yeah - our GOP are America's Dems. I suspect most Alabama Dems, are NYC's GOP (?).

I'm applying for a handgun license in NYC & I've looked into the process in great detail: I have no criminal record, and there is ZERO chance of me getting one in less than 6 months.

so I would monitor this guy closely.

Bloomberg isn't a Republican. As wikipedia correctly states

In 2001 the incumbent mayor, Rudy Giuliani, was prevented by term limits from running for re-election. Several well-known New York City politicians aspired to succeed him. Bloomberg, a lifelong member of the Democratic Party, decided to run for mayor as a member of the Republican Party, reportedly to avoid the crowded field in the Democratic primary.

Like I said, Bloomberg isn't a Republican. In Tennesee, he'd be branded a Marxist. In NY City he's just your average run of the mill Democrat.
