Only someone as deluded as Chuckie Schumer would think this is a good idea for his party. Combine the issue of Gun Control with the positions of Retreat from Iraq and Impeachment of President Bush and you have a perfect Democrat Party Platform…for Republicans, that is.

They may or may not be good mayors of NYC, but they certainly aren’t Republicans.

Let Bloomberg try to sell his nonsense to Phil Bredesen, our Democrat governor in Tn, this election year and see how far he gets.

Bredesen is a fine marksman and sportsman who would have no part of gun control.

For an assessment of those who make deals with the Brady crowd, Bloomberg may want to consult Andrew Cuomo and S & W.

yup – a NY license is not valid in NYC (although the reverse is valid).

Maybe I’ll be a 5th column within the registered NYC handgun community. ha.

My uncle has a permit but he lives way out on Long Island. I have another one (who’s son-in-law – aka my cousin’s husband – is a NYPD detective) who carries but won’t get one. After surving through the ban and confiscation of registered guns by NYC in the 60s/70s, he lives by the motto of NEVER REGISTER YOUR GUNS or your gun ownership for that matter. He keeps telling me he wants to visit Virginia and walk around with them strapped on in open plain view just because he can (he’s been saying it for awhile, but never really gets off Long Island).

Anyway, there is a clear demarcation between those living within the “5 boroughs” (and perhaps those in Westchester and Nassau County) and those in the rest of the state.

I suspect that Alabama Dems (like our TN dems) are still quite pro-gun. Our governor signed shall-issue NFA approval into law.

IIRC, not only is it six months but about $600 in fees that don’t include the actual gun.

I’m applying for a handgun license in NYC & I’ve looked into the process in great detail: I have no criminal record, and there is ZERO chance of me getting one in less than 6 months.

so I would monitor this guy closely.

In 2001 the incumbent mayor, Rudy Giuliani, was prevented by term limits from running for re-election. Several well-known New York City politicians aspired to succeed him. Bloomberg, a lifelong member of the Democratic Party, decided to run for mayor as a member of the Republican Party, reportedly to avoid the crowded field in the Democratic primary.

Like I said, Bloomberg isn’t a Republican. In Tennesee, he’d be branded a Marxist. In NY City he’s just your average run of the mill Democrat.
