[...] Head, who is finally back to blogging, thinks that the letter I mentioned before isn’t all that great: In light of this, I have stocked up on Romanian G kits and Yugo M70 kits. The Romies, well they are beautiful. The Yugos? Ugly now, but when AK barrels are $150 for a stripped sewer pipe, these will look pretty nice. I hope its not necessary, and I hope the ATF signs those form 6 import docs for our wonderful importers, but I’m not holding my breath. [...]

Arnold Harris, who is a regular commentor at Dean's World and elsewhere, runs competitive submachine gun sporting events about an hour from my house. I would like very much to own a sporting arm suitable for use at these sporting events.

By the way, I love the google ads for wine barrels and rain barrels, but they all have to be at least 16" long.

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h109-1703

Hmm, introduced on Apr 19, 2005, why is that date familiar? ;)

text of the bill is here:

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h109-1703

When blogging about a particular bill before congress, I propose one should both cite the bill number, and also the word count.

Doing a command line wc -w hr1703.txt comes back with the shockingly small count of 621 words. Short enough for even the dumbest congress-critter to read and understand before passing. It seems to exclusvly strike language from the federal code. Almost always a good thing in regards to individual freedom.

This is exactly the bone I want my RKBA congressional majority to get behind. Let's all contact our critters and ask them to endorse it. If they are for "free trade" they ought to get behind this law that supports the free trade in overseas durable goods. ;)

Surely if they are truly pro-gun, this law could easily be tacked onto the next “must pass” congressional spending bill. We need our “700 pound gorilla” to twist the thumbscrews a bit for us.

brain death.....in H.R.1703. Introduced by Ron Paul, it is unlikely to see the light of day. We should be pushing this.

The original 'sporting use' clauses were introduced by GCA 68. They are affecting us now. Repeal of 'SU' is in

You mean like the "sporting purpose" language from this blast from the past?

From Senate Bill S.1431 (2003) co-sponsored by Senators Shotgun and Shotglass of Massachsuetts, among others:

"...a firearm shall not be determined to be particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event."

You simply can't make this shit up.
