I received a tip from Anthony Garcia in comments that the folks at Barrett were surprised by the piece because the reporter, Rose French, approached Barrett on the premise that she was interested in doing a business feature about the company. Anthony forwarded me an email from Barrett to the Associated Press that addresses this concern and some factual inaccuracies contained in the story. The Barrett folks were understandably surprised that the piece she actually ran was largely anti-50 caliber material from the Violence Policy Center. [...]

I just received an e-mail from Nashville AP Bureau to the effect that they would run a correction Friday. My old co-worker John Carney will tell you it is rare indeed for the AP to admit a mistake. John, the French piece ran internationally, not just Tennessee, BTW.

The folks at Barrett were very suprised how that article turned out, what with the two anti-gun advocates being quoted. They were approached by Ms. French with the premise that the article would be a “business feature” talking about their company. they’ve had the 6.8 for a while. they even make ammo for it. Pretty pricey because it’s totally pimped out.

did you know barrett has a new rifle for 6.8 spc? I did not until i went to their site a while back.

I sound fairly intresting, though it is very expensive (compared to other carbines i have seen).

Just to clarify — that piece is by The Associated Press, not by someone on the Tennessean staff, and any AP member in the state can publish it. It moved across the wire last week, so other papers may have already run it at the same time as or even before the Tennessean.
