It's something the fans like and everyone else hates. The bowl promoters don't want to be relegated even further into obscurity, and that's what a plan like this would do. Of course, if you weren't married to the specific dates, you could make the bowls into the playoff games, and then the bowls become <i>more</i> meaningful, not less so.
