Contrary to popular belief, .308 WR and 7.62×51 NATO aren’t the same round:

With most new rifles you’re fine switching, but there’s some older 7.62×51 NATO rifles where .308 WR creates a risk of catastrophic failure.

I highly recommend DPMS. I picked up one of their .308 Panthers a few months back, and it’s been rock solid.

It looks like the one at the top of that page, except with a fluted barrel and real mags instead of those plastic thingies.

Needs a full stock and a scope. That’s a rebels weapon, by the way, a full-bore SHTF gun.
I shot a Tubb gun in .308 at Camp Perry last week during the Long Range Championship. Even with iron sights I stayed inside the nine ring. With a scope…..big medicine. .308 will get it done.

You just HAVE to take that thing deer hunting. Then, the next time some fool says, “assault weapons are useless for hunting!” you can show them a picture of you, the deer, and the assault weapon.
