[...] Egalia is usually a disingenuous, dishonest political hack. But a broken clock is right twice a day (unless it’s a military clock). She was right once before, wrong a bunch, and now is right again on a Right To Privacy Amendment: Because the right to privacy is the basis of the Griswold v. Connecticut (1965) ruling, which found that married women are too allowed to use birth control, and since said ruling was used as precedent in Roe v. Wade, conservatives are forced to forever argue that American citizens do not, and should not, have a right to privacy. [...]

[...] When Egalia isn’t busy lying about the state of North Carolina giving women who apply for restraining orders guns or trying to associate nutjobs like Fred Phelps (a registered Democrat) with Republicans, she resorts to misleading quotes about one of Knoxville’s state reps. Egalia says that Rep. Stacey Campfield’s decidedly small and selective blogroll includes a link to Staghounds, a white supremacist blog which features these repulsively racist statements. As supposed proof that Staghounds is a white supremacist blog, she quotes them as saying: “Desperation? Yeah, right. I am beginning to believe that black people, no matter where in the world they are, are cursed with a genetic predisposition to steal, murder, and create mayhem.” [...]

During the Civil War all the adult men of my Great-great grandfather's family were off with Sam Grant and later, Cump Sherman. The Sioux got kinda uppity, the womenfolk defended that Kansas Soddy long enough that the Militia was able to run them off. They used guns.

Fast forward a couple generations, my branch of the family had built a Texas Ranch thanks to a land grant for Great-great granpappy's service in the Commanche Wars, WWI had come along, all the menfolk were again off to War, Grandmaw shot a thief that pegged a shot at her for daring to object to his attempt to steal their livlihood.

The next generation my Mother sprinkled the Klu Klux Klan with birdshot, only because she couldn't find the buckshot in time, when they came 'round trying to run off the black family she'd hired to help with the place after the men had gone to war again.

Every generation of the women of my family has used a gun, if nothing else to blow coyotes out of the chicken house, since we came to Golden America from the old country. There we were serfs, allowed to have neither guns nor land of our own. If the nobility came nigh our women smeared themselves with mud and dung as their only defense against rape. My wife, nor my daughter will never smear herself with dung.

Oh, Egalia, we'd ALL prefer to to find common ground and mutual respect and all that nice stuff. What is the common ground with a murderous loon that wants you dead? Will you compromise with just a few broken bones? Will the murderous loon accept the compromise?

" probably less than that in your pathetically good-old-boy state."

This comment just makes me seethe. So a state that wants to empower women to take their defense in their own hands is a "good-old boy state" but I suspect that you feel that a state like Massachusetts that makes a woman get a pistol permit to buy even a can of MACE is a state that empowers women and is the halmark of diversity. But the last time I looked, Massachusetts has 2 male Senators, a male governor and has never had a woman elected to the highest offices and probably will not anytime soon.

"Share Power"? What has that to do with self defense? Share ammo, maybe... Nah - my wifes' ammo doesn't fit my pistol.
I'm deployed. My wife lives with one lazy dog and two psychotic cats. Does she own and carry? You bet.
The math is pretty simple. What muddies the water is people who refuse to accept the facts. Well, fine - last I heard, the Flat Earth Society was going strong. If YOU want to believe the earth is flat, and firearms are some sort of pschological extension of the male anatomy (and thus something you'd rather die than touch), bully for you. But telling someone else they'd be better off going to a shelter, or buying a can of mace, or one of those dandy little whistles - that is a nearly criminal lie. Preventing, or helping to prevent a woman from acquiring the knowledge, licence, and tool she needs for effective self defence - well, as far as I am concerned that is "accessory before the fact." I guess you could say that means that I think you are 'perpetuating the abuse', because you are, without a doubt, perpetuating the conditions under which committing the abuse is possible.

Nowhere in my comments did I say that Domestic Abusers are not responsible for their actions. What I said is that Domestic Violence Advocates typically tell women to leave ther home, call the police, live in a shelter, get counseling, and let the "system" deal with it. This is placing women in a "victim" role which does perpetuate future abuse.

Your sarcastic comments that a man cannot know anything about a woman is ignorant and I will not even respond. And, where did I say that the only women who are 'strong and esteemed' are the ones who agree with me?

“The North Carolina State legislators have apparently concluded that the best way to deal with domestic violence is to give women guns.”

Incorrect. The North Carolina Legislature is adding another onion layer of protection for a woman when the "system" breaks down.

You really need to learn to write without calling names and staying on what was actually said if you ever have any hope of being effective in your communication.

Still misleading. And speaking of reading comprehension, I fail to see what half that rant has to do with anything Michael said. It's not merely a woman issue, it's a defense issue that affects people of all genders.

Michael, I am so glad that you are looking after us strong and esteemed women. Gee, maybe one day we might be strong and esteemed enough to actually share power with wonderful men like you who know so very much about us women.

All this time I thought that violent men were responsible for domestic violence, I am so sorry that I did not understand that it is 'people like' me who are perpetuating the abuse.

Stupid me for thinking I knew about us women, next time I'll check with an expert like you.

Below is what I said (notice the qualifier?), and it is scary as hell to think that someone with your questionable language comprehension skills has anything to do with writing laws for us 'strong and esteemed women' who are 15% of the U.S. Congress and probably less than that in your pathetically good-old-boy state. In fact, it appears that the only women you view as strong and esteemed are the women who agree with you. The rest of us 'perpetuate the abuse.'

"The North Carolina State legislators have apparently concluded that the best way to deal with domestic violence is to give women guns."

Apparently true.

nice comments.

I just wanted to relate my thoughts on this qoute.

"Does this mean that women will also get a get-out-of-jail-free card just in case there are suddenly a lot of dead and wounded boyfriends and husbands?"

Yea pretty much.

i have observed that many elites are not only opposed to women assuming responsibility for their own defense, but also to providing any information to women on a variety of subjects. Knowledge is power. Control the dissemination of knowledge and you can best conserve power in the hands of the elites. Thus, what looks like sloppy grammar might be interpreted, if one were cynical like me, as just another way to pull the wool over people's eyes.

"Legislature wants to hand out guns" sounds much more dangerous than, "Legislature wants to give potential victims of domestic violence information on how to defend themselves." The CHOICE is up to them.

On the other hand, calling it "deduction", when egalia's argument would more properly be called "inductive" reasoning was probably simply sloppy grammar. (But now i'm just being a bitch.)

I'm actually one of the GRNC Legislative Team members that helped write this bill. It is obvious Egalia has neither read this bill, or researched it. HB 1311 does not:

1. GIVE a woman a gun
2. Lets her bypass the normal background checks or training

The notion that "the guns will be used against them" is ignorant. I believe this notion of the "weak, scared, and unable to respond to life's events" stereotype is dangerous for women and perpetuates the abuse because women learn to be like this from people like Egalia. Women are strong, esteemed, have powerful minds, and can learn how to use a gun for lawful purposes.

If you want to end the control, stop teaching women to be victims which is how one is controlled in the first place

It is encouragement. You should amend your original assertion since you said they were giving out guns.

'we can’t get past this simple one.'

Because you made something up.

I didn't label your 'views' ridiculous, merely your wild assertions (like they're giving out guns).

'It’s not deduction, it’s made up. A carry permit doesn’t come with a gun. Info is only helpful if they already have one or are interested in getting one.'

It is more than info, obviously it is encouragement to get guns, and encouragement from law enforcement officials and legislators no less.

I don't see any point in addressing our different viewpoints, when we can't get past this simple one. I prefer to attempt to find common ground with people and then attempt to understand (and respect) differences, but when my views are labeled "ridiculous', I can take a hint.

Gun ownership among women is, thankfully, on the rise. And what about your other ridiculous comments?

"The only problem, of course, is that statement is made up."

It's called a 'deduction". Duh.

Said deduction is based on the following from my post:
"North Carolina lawmakers have approved a measure that would require courts to give battered spouses something extra when they seek a restraining order--information on how to apply for a concealed weapon."

So, did you think the legislators want to give women info on how to get guns so the women can go purchase sling shots?

"...[B]ecause this society just can’t figure out how to stop reproducing violent and misogynist men."

It's your crew that's created the conditions for them. What we want is the tools to thin out the herd when needed.
