Pit vs. Porcupine

James has pics of what is the result of a pit bull vs. porcupine match (pics are not for the squeamish). Somewhere, there is a naked porcupine. James wonders if it’s real. I thought it was possible as bully type dogs aren’t exactly known for giving up.

Jay emails that Snopes says it is real. But it’s a bull terrier.

Unfortunately for the pit bull if these are in fact authentic, it will most likely die. From experience bear and hog hunting any porcupine attack on a dog that can achieve a good quill stick to the mouth area can cause the dog extreme pain and in allot of cases a single quill will keep the animal from eating resulting in the animal starving itself to death. The infections to dogs from a single stick are usually enough to make the animal very sick at the very least and in allot of cases result in death if not given antibiotics.

I’m not a cat person. Can’t justify keeping a box of shit in my house.

Any chance to get a number to this dogs vet? To remove one quill on a female blue tick we used vise grips and all the force we and the dog could stand. After 3-4 days of tugging with not a single budge the shoulder area surrounding the quill became very infected. 6-8 weeks passed and the skin, flesh, and muscle basically rotted away and allowed the quill and all the infected mass to be removed leaving quiet the hole. A few short weeks we lost her to the infection. This pit must be a haus to be able to survive this, and hats off to its vet…!!

Someone sent me that picture last week in an email, and I thought it was a Bull Terrier too. It made me sick to look at it and I couldn’t bear to post it in the blog, although I’m glad James did.

Can’t keep a box of shit in your house? What do you do with dirty diapers?

  11. SayUncle Says:

Heh. Hermetically sealed in plastic baggies then put into a diaper genie.

    But that’s just temporary 🙂
