[...] Now, I’ve read probably every gun statistic on the planet and I’ve never heard that one. I even spent five minutes trying to Google it. Can’t find it. Someone let me know if they locate a source but, for now, I’ll go ahead and call it bullshit. Also, a Florida study concluded that active resistance to crime (preferably while armed) was the best course of action. [...]

[...] Really? Research seems to indicate otherwise. Also, the argument that criminals do not respect the law and so laws will have no effect on them is not true. If guns are outlawed, most of the facilities that manufacture them would stop doing so, making it much harder for the criminal to find a gun to purchase illegally in the first place.
I'm just thinking out loud here, so please bear with me:

How about looking at it from this perspective:

- Consider some topic on which you have fervant opinion and will not consider changing, regardless of the information provided. (Other than guns - say Abortion or Death Penalty or Immigration or Public Education or Gay Marriage.)
- Try to form an argument that would cause you to change your mind - or even see the other perspective.

= This exercise should illustrate how difficult the task is. How could someone change _your_ mind on something you will not change?

...
The other element to keep in mind is that we don't have to change everyone's mind. We just need to present our desires in such a way that they are appealing or acceptable to a majority. That's how we ensure that our rights and choices remain viable - we get them supported by enough people in the US that they are not taken away.

IMO, this is a win / lose situation - it's a best / better / good / poor / bad / worst situation. Much more gray than it is black & white.

...
Just as there are dogs that are afraid of loud noises and cannot be trained otherwise, there are people who are afraid of guns and cannot be convinced otherwise. Neither can be explained or understood. They just have to be dealt with.
