For future reference, a System Restore will take your computer back to a point where things worked properly. Ever so ofter, Windows XP takes a snaphot of your setup usually when you add software or hardware. (Before you install something, it's a good idea to do a maual restore point, just in case.)

To do one, click on Start and go to the Control Panel (Category View). Go to Performance and Maintenance and click on "System Restore" in the See Also task pane. That will get you to where you can either do a restore or create a restore point. From this point, it will walk you through the process.

Could be a hardware issue, try disconnecting the monitor cable and making sure it's fully seated when you put it back in... how is your computer/monitor?
