Be aware that pocket .357 revolvers usually deliver no more ballistic performance than the same revolver in 9mm! Just a lot more noise and kick.

the .380 is a fine cartridge for defense. It is basically a small 9mm. The KelTec’s seem to be popular – they are small. Also look at the Bersa 380. This is a “near copy” of the Walter PPK. A bit bigger than the KetTec, but everyone I talk to says they are very reliable… and priced right. (I was looking at the KelTec, but something keeps holding me back…)

Yeah, the gas-piston uppers are pretty hard to get… straight from POA there’s about a four to five MONTH waiting list… I’ll toss it on order and buy something else to tide me over… love the AR-15’s versitility.

I recommend the Springfield SOCOM.

I bought one a few months ago and like it a lot.

I am kind of thinking about getting a Springfield 1911 V-12 (ported 5″ government model).

I have the Springfield 1911 V-16 (the 6″ longslide model) and it makes a lot of noise and is dead on.

I like adding new wrinkles to the 1911 platform.

You can always get yourself a good bird gun to bring into the field with the dog . . . . . or a cheap mil surplus SKS to take deer hunting.

I appreciate the pluses of concealed hammers (such as not snagging on clothing as you draw it) but somehow I like the option — if I think I might need it — of firing single-action with the attending less possible “jerking” of the gun. Of course, in a life-and-death moment that usually isn’t the first thought on your mind…

Looks like my “buy a gun” budget went instead to a new puppy (to be blogged soon). I’m finalizing my taxes this week, so maybe if that turns out better than expected, my mind might change.

On the flip side, my yearly mortgage reassessment just came back, and my escrow payment went down by like $35/month.

I just bought a Taurus .38 Special, and it does just fine as a pocket gun. I need a good holster to break up the outline and keep it more upright, but that is it.

S&W 642 with lasergrips. 15 ounces and $500 ($350 with regular grips). Not a .357, but you can load it up with hot Cor-Bon .38s if you want. You’ve shot mine, but you haven’t shot it since I got the trigger job done. It’s super-sweet now.

The SOCOM is a cool gun, but not worth it to me at that price unless I had a specific use for it, like competition shooting or whatever.

Looks like I am buying a gun for the people this year. The check going TO the feds is a little larger than I had planned. Plus I am negotiating for a large closet (small condo) at the bargain price of a medium sized mansion.

I’ve got a Glock 21, personally it’s my favorite polymer frame handgun (followed by a close second Walther P99, preferably in .40)… It’s still a bit big for my hands, but it’s not nearly as heavy as some other full size .45 ACPs. A great choice, in my opinion.

I’m finishing up building my AR-15 for buy a gun day, looking into getting one of those gas piston carbine uppers…
