Her and her AK

I guess she looks so sad in the picture because she spent $422.25 on a gun that I bought for $275. She writes about how easy it is to buy an AK-47, which she describes as:

It was a clone, like most AK-47s in America. The first President Bush made it illegal to import the Russian and Chinese military models. The knock-offs look like AK-47s, fire like AK-47s and are very accurate at short distances. I said I’d take it.

First, you bought an imported WASR-10, which is not an AK-47. It is a semi-automatic version of the Kalashnikov rifle. It is not very accurate at any distance but is good enough.

Even this one, a semiautomatic rifle developed for Soviets tank crews to kill from a mile away.

I think you have your gun propaganda mixed up and are thinking of a 50 caliber. The bullet for an AK will travel a mile but the gun is only accurate out to about 300 yards.

Anyway, welcome to the shooting sports, Josie. Now, go get some ammo. Maybe she should go to the Second Annual Shooting for Women Conference.

UUuh, I shoot my SAR quite a bit – and while I can get a decent group at 50 yards – and can hit a body sized target at 100 yards (maybe) I’d say the chances of reaching out and touching someone at 300 yards are minimal . . . . at least for me.

But it does what it does very well.

I used to bullseye womp rats in my T-16 back home. They’re not much bigger
than two meters. Don’t you think Soviet tank crews could hit stuff a mile away using iron sights?

You missed the biggest howler in the article, the scare quotes from the County Coroner:

Joe Dominick, Allegheny County’s chief deputy coroner, said shots from an AK-47 inflict trauma all over the body. The bullet can blow through several body parts, cutting through a hand to the torso through the other hand.

Is Mr. Dominick too stupid to realize that virtually any centerfire rifle of 7 mm or greater caliber will do the same thing?

Or did our reporterette “edit” his comments to fit her story?

  5. Ravenwood Says:

Pardon me for stating the obvious, but why would Russian tank crews get out of their tank and use a semi-automatic carbine to shoot at targets a mile away?

It seems to me like the guns on the tank would be good enough to accomplish that.

I find it amusing that the only people who feel they need to lie when making a firearm purchase are criminals and journalists …“My dad recommended this model,” I said, searching for an excuse.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
