I have no problem with sin taxes on things like tobacco and alcohol. If we're going to tax anything, let's tax things that are bad for people to defray the secondary costs (health care, car accidents, etc.) and to discourage people from consuming them. But this does seems like it's just taxing an unpopular industry to help out a popular industry. That does seem bizarre.
