On a basic level, it takes time for reports to be filed and computer files to be updated. On a more particular level, just because Jason thinks this is a big deal doesn't mean anyone in a very large police department gives two hoots about it. If the only publicity is that which has been generated by a small blogger who may or may not have an attorney and has not filed any claim with the sheriff's department, why would they know. In fact, I'd be more surprised if they were aware of what happened.
