I spent a couple of summers in New Mexico, and I had to explain to my dad both times that I would still be in the U.S.

Tom, Sante Fe is nice for a few days. It's a neat town, but not very big. I went a long time ago, and again a few winters ago to ski. It was March, as I recall. Still lots of snow, but pretty well-packed. Everything in Sante Fe shuts down pretty early in the evening as I recall.

OT, but I'm thinking about visiting New Mexico in the spring (late March time frame). What should I see and do? We were planning on using Santa Fe as a base of operations.

I moved to New York for a year when I got out of high school. Found a job dishwashing at a relatively upscale restaraunt.

First day on the job, some crackhead was training me (I didn't realize at the time, but later on people were astounded I didn't realize). He bummed my last 20$ off of me after bleating for 2 hours about his dying mother. I never saw him again.

In any case, when he wasn't shaking me down or whatever, he kept asking about how we get along with the Indians in our country. Repeated attempts did not persuade him that I was a citizen of the USA. I went so far as to point out New Mexico in a travel almanac and he still didn't believe me.

I guess if state officials smuggle pot and Pamela Anderson is lobbying to make cock-fighting illegal, you may as well live in another country.
