Today’s funny

The National Park Service has clarified that the Grand Canyon was created by Noah’s Flood.

Oh and this is more Funny Sad, not Funny Ha Ha.

Update: Yeah, yeah, they’re just selling a book.

They just appear to be selling a book mixed in with a bunch of other books. Hardly an endorsement, but they perhaps decided to cater to a wider audience, and hey, if it makes them money, why not? We went to Devil’s Tower in September and they promote the “native american rag in a tree” thing, so if you cater to one religion…

How much more proof do you need that the Bush administration is pure evil?

In defense of NPS, though, they’ve been getting shit about this for years from the fundies, and the Grand Canyon staff has probably wasted vast amounts of time in a futile effort to get them to go away. If I was the park superintendent, I’d probably cave in and let them sell the book, too.

Alright it’s incorrect to say Noah’s flood did not create the Grand Canyon. It’s also incorrect to say the Park Service said that it did. They want to keep making money on the apparently popular book, with the helpful title _Grand Canyon: A Different View_. It’s not like it’s the only book mentioning the origin of the canyon they sell.

Remember allowing free speech means allowing WRONG speech too. Censorship is always an attempt to suppress falsehoods. Where it goes wrong is that the censors aren’t infallible either. Now, admittedly the Park Service not selling a book isn’t censorship; the FBI making sure no one sells it would be. But censorship is evil enough that I’ll give kudos to the Bush Administration for refusing to come close even when they’ll catch flack from the Anointed Sages of Truth.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
