It should be pointed out, however, that while it's shameful that Dean is pandering for the vote of the guy in your picture, that guy is FAR more likely to vote for Bush or a Libertarian candidate. What does that say?

But for what reasons? I personally don't feel the confederate flag necessarily denotes racism (though it could in certain contexts, like the neat picture above) but find the lack of outrage by the press, NAACP, and others a bit odd.

Will it follow Dean around in the press like it did with that dolt Trent Lott for two weeks? I doubt it.

It says that all the parties pander. I could buy republican but not libertarian. If he's gonna vote third party, it'd be for some skinhead type party. Not libertarians.

The Confederate flag has become inseparably associated with racism, because it's only ever been used prominently as a racist symbol. Every time new civil rights rules are suggested, the people who oppose them rally around the Confederate Naval Jack or the Confederate Battle Flag. It's why South Carolina flew it over the state capitol, and why Georgia put it on their state flag. Some continue to insist that the Confederate Flag has "other meanings," but the history doesn't really support them on that charge. (Besides, the Nazi flag had "other meanings," too, and you don't see nearly as many people clamoring for its display.)

I could easily see him voting Libertarian, maybe not specifically because of the racism, but because of other, adjuct concerns, like desired separatism.

I would like to suggest, however, that if Dean loses the Democratic nomination, Uncle should re-post the same graphic with Bush's name in place of Dean's. :)
